Improving Health Services
through Health Information Systems

Developing and improving electronic health systems is one of PNIPH’s core objectives. Health Information systems are effective tools improving accessibility to data to enhance public health evidence-based decision making.

PNIPH focus areas include reproductive and maternal health, human resources for health, non- family practice, road traffic accidents & injury prevention, breast cancer and mammography, cancer services and registry, gender-based violence observatory, civil registration and vital statistics. The Institute always considers cross-cutting issues like woman’s rights and gender equality, human rights, climate change and environment, vulnerable localities and populations, and social determinants of health in its work.

eHealth is revolutionizing healthcare by storing and delivering health information efficiently, as well as reducing human error.

Since the establishment of PNIPH, the Institute has invested heavily in the Ministry of Health's IT infrastructure and healthinformation systems to support healthcare services provided by the Ministry. In particular, these efforts support services provided by MoH clinics in both the West Bank and Gaza in line with the family health approach and in support of the goal of achieving universal health coverage.

PNIPH supports the digital infrastructure for clinical and health-related systems at the MoH by digitalizing paper-based systems with the aim of making all eHealth programs available on a unified platform. This platform will allow a complete patient file connected to a family record which will facilitate better availability of patient information. Patients receiving care at MoH clinics will benefit from safer and more coordinated care as paper files are phased out and patient data is secure on MoH servers and online for nurses and doctors.

PNIPH aims to expand these efforts moving forward to unify primary health care-related programs under one system to effectively provide care for patients, from newborns to adults, from immunization to NCDs, and beyond.

In addition to supporting the MoH with eHealth systems, PNIPH is seeking to utilize anonymized data and “Big Data” concepts to analyze information and discover health trends in order to provide policy markers with valuable information for effective health advancement.
