The Palestinian Ministry of Health approached the World Health Organization and the Palestinian National Institute of Public Health to digitize case-based surveillance (CBS) forms in order to enhance the quality of CBS by simplifying reporting, improving completeness, and increasing timeliness in the dataflow to the national level. The system fully integrates clinical and laboratory notifications, and includes unique notification forms for several communicable diseases, many of which are priorities for the health system.

The Communicable Diseases Surveillance System helps monitor diseases with high burden, detect outbreaks of epidemic-prone diseases, and monitors progress towards national or international control/eradication targets.
